The Spot

Spring 2024

This project reimagines urban residential design through a hyper-compact, three-story home that fits within the dimensions of a standard parking spot. Created for two fictional brothers, Henry, a late-night bartender, and Mark, a college student, the design responds to a specific client narrative and lifestyle. With nearly complete creative freedom, the challenge lay in balancing individual privacy, communal living, and vertical efficiency within a minimal footprint.

This project demonstrates how narrative-driven design and site constraints can generate innovative, livable architecture… even in the footprint of a parking space.

The spatial organization reflects the rhythm of their routines: Mark occupies the quiet second floor with early access to laundry and a private bathroom, while Henry resides on the top level, distanced from shared zones and late-night disruptions. The ground floor anchors the home with a welcoming living space, kitchen, and guest-accessible bath, creating a social core for visiting family and friends.
