Mechanical Reassembly
Spring 2023
Professor Rana Abudayyeh
This project explores design through an analytical and imaginative reassembly of mechanical patent drawings. By dissecting and reconfiguring a selected patent image, the work investigates spatial, formal, and tectonic potentials embedded in machine parts. Through iterative modeling, orthographic drawing, and digital post-processing, the project transitions from mechanical logic to architectural expression. Emphasis was placed on craft, composition, and narrative, with the final outcome being a layered, shadowed image of a “protection against the elements backpack” The work balances technical precision with conceptual exploration, presenting architecture as an evolving process of assembly and interpretation.
